The modern version of the classic eye makeup style is as clean, polished, and precise as ever, and is BEAUTIFUL. It appears low key, but its simplicity is built on great technique, a flawless application, and a gorgeous palette of perfect tones, customized to the individual.
It is also delivered with the
overall appeal of a great hairstyle and wardrobe. If you need a few
individuals to help bring this look to life, think
Charlize Theron,
Halle Berry, Julianne Moore, Angela Basset, Meg Ryan, and Michelle
Pfeiffer...to name a few.
Notice that when you think of these individuals you never think bland or hoh-hum...classic modern is not boring...its the epitomy of beautiful clean design that stands the test of time. The fashion designers these classic beauties choose, underscore their style and powerfully deliver their sense of aesthetic; Giorgio Armani, Ralph Lauren, Halston, Chanel, Chloé.

STEP 1-Choose your makeup products, tools and palette...
Neutral eye makeup shades, with black, black/brown mascara is always a great bet for a polished looking finish.
Great tools are key to a precision application which will help
deliver the 'polish'; medium eyeshadow brush, angled liner brush,
blender brush, clean mascara spool or toothbrush for lashes and
brows. Add a large powder, a blush and a lip brush and you should
be ready for the application.
STEP 2-Start With Your Face...
The objective? The appearance of a clean flawless complexion.
1. Begin with foundation...as sheer a
foundation as your complexion
can afford and a perfect/near perfect match to your skin tone ( a good
indicator of a great skin tone match is the foundation should disappear
into your skin as you blend).
If you
need a good, light weight sheer foundation, try Sue
Devitt
70% Triple Seaweed Gel Foundation. Another great product to
consider if you don't need heavy coverage is this portable stick
foundation (spot coverage too) by Bobbi Brown ( I personally love this
easy to use, light weight, place it where you need it approach to
foundation)
If your
skin's texture needs a little help TRY a using a primer to
smooth your complexion ...Smashbox

reviews.

2. Cover blemishes and under eye circles.
3. Achieve matte overall finish using loose translucent powder and
large quality powder brush. Disperse a light dusting to remove any
shine without excess depositing in creases or looking to dry and
"cakey".
Need to
stay polished on the go? TRY Bobbi
Brown Pressed Powder . Don't
forget that using good quality tools make all
the difference in the world in getting the results you want...this look
needs to be flawless.
Quality brushes and well performing makeup is half the
battle to any
great look.
4. Add blush color for soft dimension (two tones are
ideal and will
work together to create more natural looking dimension). Place deeper
shade along the side of cheek bone letting it fade as you approach the
side of your face (don't extend it too far, you don't want that
eighties over sculpted look). Take the second lighter tone and use it
in the apple of the cheek.
There are
many great blush/ bronzer duos available, but if you want
dimension without the 'sun kissed" appearance, TRY Vincent Longo Day
Play, Duo Compact Blush.
STEP 3-The Eyes...
Because classic modern beauty eye makeup style is clean
and not overdone, "matte" skin and eye color flattering tones work
best. Once again neutral earth tone shadows work well to flatter and
bring sophistication, as well as, define your eyes.
On translucent powder dusted eyelids apply (for dry
base and staying
power):
1. Eye shadow: Light earth tone shade shadow from lash
line to just
below brow bone (blend into brow bone not the the brow)
2. Medium shade of same color family blended in crease area of upper lid and just under lower lash line (thickest line under middle of lower lashes that tapers and gently blends out to corners). Optional, for more definition, try dark shade of same color family placed close to and along upper lash line.
TRY Cargo Eyeshadow Palettes for a great selection in beautiful neutral multi shade palettes.
3. Liner: Classic modern eye makeup style is a very precise look, so make sure that you line the top lash line with dark eyeliner, as close to your lash line as possible, so it becomes one with your lash line and functions to thicken your lashes.TRY Tarte double ended pencil eye liner in 'Classic Black/Khaki" .
4. Be sure to use a good eyelash curler to make the eyes as large and wide open as possible.TRY one of the original metal tong style like this oneTweezerman Deluxe Eyelash Curler Eyelash Curler
5. Apply Mascara: Two coats of black, or black/brown mascara that is non clumpy, non flaky and keeps the look of naturally tapering lashes. Use very sparingly on lower lashes.TRY this inexpensive favorite L'Oreal Lash Out Lengthening and Separating Mascara, Black or Brown Black OR Lancome's Famous Definicils Mascara, Black
STEP 4-The Lips...
What color? Anything that brings
the word "sophisticated" to mind. Lined lips with sheer cinnamon,
berry/brown
tones often work well with this eye makeup style. Red is also a
classic choice if you are feeling bold.
1. Start with a lip primer to moisten and protect the lips.
TRY Fresh
Sugar Lip Treatment for an awesome lip balm that will work to
'prime' the lips, as well as, restore and protect.
|
|
2. Line lips with a shade as close to lip color as possible.
TRY MAC, NARS or Bobbi Brown for great lip liner pencils in spices, mauves and pink browns..
3. Apply matte or sheer shades in mauve to berry/brown tones
TRY CLINIQUE Almost Lipstick for sheer gorgeous shades like award winning 06Black Honey .
Make sure you use a lip liner for a clean
precisely defined mouth...it makes a powerful difference.
Last
word on this eye makeup style and overall look...
When
it comes to classic modern eye makeup style, there is
emphasis on
both design precision, with techniques like blending and balance, as
well as beauty precision. Generally speaking, it is always very
important to have a sense of
yourself to make effective, feature enhancing product choices.
