The range
of eye makeup styles seen
these days is seemingly endless.
Modern beauty is
not just about recently developed or forward thinking style. Modern
style these days can include everything from cutting edge, never seen,
to very retro, either a composition of new and borrowed
elements from past eras, or complete copies of eras gone
by.
The
world of fashion and celebrity have really collided and play a huge
role in our overall beauty aesthetic...in other words what we
think is beautiful at present has been shaped significantly by these
forces.
Many faces,
many styles, many celebrities have created a wide ranging number of
looks. All part of the modern beauty aesthetic and all, ways
to express ones self, from minimalist to maven.
From minimalist to maven, nothing will enhance eye
makeup styles
better than a bright
white smile.
MINIMALIST TO MAVEN...
Vogue
has always been at the forefront when it comes to defining style. This
famous publication has been around since 1892,
is
now published in eighteen countries and is considered amongst many,
"the
world's most influential fashion magazine".¹ Nothing
short of a
perfect resource for modern beauty.
These below images,
borrowed from and part of Vogue's Fall 2008 Ready
To Wear collections backstage coverage, provide excellent example
references
for these seven modern beauty eye makeup styles, as well as, serve to
note some of the
design houses that bring these looks to life.

SEVEN
Look Defining EYE
MAKEUP STYLES
| Style |
Description: |
| 1. Bare Minimalist
|
Over all look? Think classic Calvin Klein
ad, or check out Burberry's ready to wear style for
fall 2008...dramatically bare looking makeup,
neutral shades, a little color on the lips.
Note* Technically, not really bare, as in without makeup, just clean
finish,
neutral complexion, the appearance of minimal definition ...
|
| 2. Natural Beauty Chic |
Fresh faced sexy beauty, that
strategically maximizes definition with a moderate amount of makeup
without trading natural beauty's minimal appeal...Ralph Lauren's ads
always feature this makeup style with larger than life "natural
looking" beauties. MORE... |
| 3. Modern Classic |
Very
polished clean makeup look high on beauty definition and technical
precision, low on excess and drama...Tommy Hilfiger, Izod,
ads epitomize the feel with MORE...
|
| 4. 'Jet Set' Glamour |
Less
girlie and overt than days gone by, more sophisticated edge feel to
makeup; soft smoky eyes, defined full lips, radiant face...designers
that use this look to compliment their fashions?...Michael Kors, BCBG
Max Azria, Stella McCartney and yes, even Giorgio Armani these
days.
|
| 5. Diva |
Full on playful, unabashed love
of makeup, hair and clothes... High definition of eyes and
lips. Bold confident wear of designers like Versace,
Valentino, Yves St Laurent.
|
| 6. Cutting Edge |
Fashion forward, slightly avant
garde aesthetic but still a recognizable beauty ideal. Anna
Sui, Marc Jacobs epitomize the artistic fashionista. MORE...
|
| 7. Alternative |
Eye
makeup styles with a harder edge, greater dramatic expression and
artistic intensity. The beauty parameters that most of us
work within, are not always evident with this style but they are always
eye catching...Designers like Christian Lacroix, really bring to life
this statement and the ever present thought provoking, statement
making, artistic angst.
