Foundation Brush

Three Good Reasons You Should Get One

The foundation brush provides an easier, more precise way to effectively blend liquid or wet application foundations ... its faster too. The illusive 'flawless finish' can be in reach for the amateur with a little practice.

Three Reasons You Should Consider A Foundation Brush

Makeup Application

foundation brush tip Beginner or veteran, you will need an application strategy.  Dot your foundation with a Q-tip and blend, one zone at a time, till you get a handle on how much coverage you want, the amount of foundation you will need to create that coverage, how much to dispense per zone and the blending required for it.  Your ultimate goal is, of coarse, an undetectable finish.

  1. Precision-The flat but tapered brush heads facilitates smoothing and blending over both larger surface plains (cheeks forehead), as well as smaller more awkward facial zones (eye socket's inner corner of eye and bridge of nose), with much greater precision.
  2. Ease- Although experienced fingers or a wedge shaped sponge can do the trick, I have personally found, that a foundation brush lets you access the face with a lot more ease. The paint brush styling of the brush is a familiar action for most people and with a little blending practice, easy to master. TIP: Use a Q-tip to apply the foundation, then blend out with a brush changing the stroke angles for more effective blending. Fingers and/ or sponge can help the final smoothing and blending into the skin.
  3. Speed-The dense soft but firm bristle can blend larger amounts of foundation. With liquid foundation you do have a more pressing time line because of how fast it can dry.

Qualities to look for?

Medium length handle, soft but firm, flat brush with tapered bristle head, and in this case, the hair can be synthetic or a mix of synthetic and natural bristles (natural bristles are more porous and can absorb too much product which is not ideal for liquid applications).

TRY Bobbi Brown's Foundation Brush as a top pick.

eye makeup Another great, but in this case a little more budget friendly example... Sephora Collection Double Ended Perfedt . What's so great about this Sephora brush? It illustrates beautifully the qualities that are ideal in a brush for foundation application, it is double ended with a powder brush on the other end of the foundation brush, double duty, handy design with a great price. and a great price point.
